ボーカルのChadとベースのMikeは兄弟。ドラムだけ数回入れ替わってるんだけど、初代ドラマーは2人のいとこ。 多分、Nickelbackって聞いてまず思い浮かぶのがChadの焼きそば頭っていう人は多いと思う。(笑) キリストっぽいよね。笑。長らくこの髪型やったけど、近年は最初の写真みたいな短髪にしています。焼きそばの方がインパクトあって好きやったわ。 現在は同じくカナダ出身のAvril Lavigneと婚約中。なんかあんまりピンと来ない組み合わせだなーっていう印象。ちなみにAvrilは去年この曲『How You Remind Me』をカバーしてるので、興味のある人はそっちも聴いてみてください。当たり前やけどあたしは断然原曲派。これはChadの低い声やからこそカッコいい曲やと思うんだなあ。

訳す時に悩んだ箇所が「Been to the bottom of every bottle」ってとこ。一応他の人が載せてる和訳もチェックしてみたんだけど、「bottle」を重視して「酒に溺れる」って訳してる人と、「bottom」を重視して「どん底まで落ちる」って訳してる人に分かれました。とりあえず曖昧にしとこうと思って「どん底まで」って訳したけど……。解説がほしいところ。英語難しいねー。
あとは、「I couldn't cut it as a poor man stealing」を「貧しい男が盗むように上手くやれなかった」って訳してる人が多かったんだけど、あたしは「cut」を「〜をやめる」の意味で取って「(盗むのを)やめられなかった」っていう感じで訳してます。
もう一つ、「I was waiting on a different story」は「別の話を期待してた」っていう訳が主流だったけど、「waiting for」じゃないっていうことに違和感があるんだよなあ。なので「on」は「(場所)で」っていう使い方にしときました。最初は「別の物語で」にしようかと思ったんだけど、「story」は「階」っていう意味もあるので「別の階で待っていた」=すれ違いを表す感じにした。 一応「wait on」も「待つ」っていう意味があるみたいだから迷ったけど。

オーストラリアのバンド。1997年、同じ高校だったShimonとEmmaは、Silverchair(オーストラリアのバンド)のファン同士ということで意気投合。SilverchairやGreen Day、Rage Against The Machineのコピーをするようになった。(この時はShimonがドラム、Emmaがギター)曲作りもするようになって、新たにドラマーを迎えた。 国内での知名度が上がって、活動拠点をアメリカに移すことを決意。ドラマーが移住を断念したので現在のドラマーMarkが加入。 Shimonの父親もミュージシャンで、プロデューサー業もやってるらしい。Emmaは「安西」っていう名字からわかるとおり、父親が日本人でハーフです。
『Riptide』の歌詞の内容は社会風刺的。自分をしっかり持つってことについて歌ってます。

メンバーが1人ってどういうことや。ってなるよね。(笑) 元々ボーカルのCraigはChiodosっていうバンドのフロントマン。躁鬱病ってこともあって、メンバーとのいざこざもあったらしい。2009年、Craigは強制的に脱退させられてChiodosは新しいボーカリストBrandon Bolmerを迎える。 Chiodosを辞めたCraigが結成したバンドがD.R.U.G.S.。(メンバーの大半はバンド掛け持ち)結成翌年にアルバムリリースもしたんだけど、去年CraigがChiodosに戻ることになる。おそらくそれが原因だと思うけど、他のメンバーがD.R.U.G.S.を辞めることがオフィシャルで発表されて、バンドメンバーは実質Craig1人になった。他のメンバーは別口で何かしら始めている模様。 Mattが「No one is in DRUGS anymore except Craig.」って言ったらしいけど、それってなかなかシュールな状況よね。笑。今後どうするのかはわかんないけど、もう活動しないなら残念。
彼らの唯一のアルバムから最初にMV化されたこの曲がエモくてカッコいいので紹介します。 『If You Think This Song Is About You, It Probably Is』。タイトル長ぇ。でもこのセンス好きだな。「この曲が自分についてだと思うなら、多分そうなんだろう」。
