オーストラリアのバンド。1997年、同じ高校だったShimonとEmmaは、Silverchair(オーストラリアのバンド)のファン同士ということで意気投合。SilverchairやGreen Day、Rage Against The Machineのコピーをするようになった。(この時はShimonがドラム、Emmaがギター)曲作りもするようになって、新たにドラマーを迎えた。 国内での知名度が上がって、活動拠点をアメリカに移すことを決意。ドラマーが移住を断念したので現在のドラマーMarkが加入。 Shimonの父親もミュージシャンで、プロデューサー業もやってるらしい。Emmaは「安西」っていう名字からわかるとおり、父親が日本人でハーフです。
『Riptide』の歌詞の内容は社会風刺的。自分をしっかり持つってことについて歌ってます。

D.R.U.G.S.。日本での知名度はイマイチでしょうか。 正式名称は「Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows」。アメリカのポストハードコアバンド。

メンバーが1人ってどういうことや。ってなるよね。(笑) 元々ボーカルのCraigはChiodosっていうバンドのフロントマン。躁鬱病ってこともあって、メンバーとのいざこざもあったらしい。2009年、Craigは強制的に脱退させられてChiodosは新しいボーカリストBrandon Bolmerを迎える。 Chiodosを辞めたCraigが結成したバンドがD.R.U.G.S.。(メンバーの大半はバンド掛け持ち)結成翌年にアルバムリリースもしたんだけど、去年CraigがChiodosに戻ることになる。おそらくそれが原因だと思うけど、他のメンバーがD.R.U.G.S.を辞めることがオフィシャルで発表されて、バンドメンバーは実質Craig1人になった。他のメンバーは別口で何かしら始めている模様。 Mattが「No one is in DRUGS anymore except Craig.」って言ったらしいけど、それってなかなかシュールな状況よね。笑。今後どうするのかはわかんないけど、もう活動しないなら残念。
彼らの唯一のアルバムから最初にMV化されたこの曲がエモくてカッコいいので紹介します。 『If You Think This Song Is About You, It Probably Is』。タイトル長ぇ。でもこのセンス好きだな。「この曲が自分についてだと思うなら、多分そうなんだろう」。

そしたらMETALLICAの日にどんどん好きなアーティストが追加されていくじゃないか!笑。 Linkin Park、Fall Out Boy、Bullet For My Valentineって激アツやな。他に気になるのはJake Bugg、M.I.A.。Jake BuggはOASISメンバーも絶賛しているUKの新人です。M.I.A.はダンスミュージックかな?最近人気が下火な気もするけど、一時期よく聴いてたので是非観たい。多分ほとんどOCEANに居座ることになりそう。移動が少なくていいけど、逆に場所取りに必死でごはん食べたりするヒマないパターンや。 ちなみに去年Green Day始まる前にかき氷を買いに行って、戻ってきたら人いっぱいで前に行けなくて、肉眼ではほとんど見えませんでした。今年は場所取り頑張る!けどかき氷は食べたい。(去年3つ食べた!)
10日の方も観たいアーティストちらほらいるんやけどねー。 Hot Chelle Rae、Zenbraheadは絶対楽しいと思う。(ゼブヘはサマソニ出すぎでありがたみがないという声も聞くが)Willy Moonもどんなステージになるのか気になる。Cyndi Lauper、Earth, Wind & Fireも貴重なライブになるやろうし観たかった。この2組は分けるんかなーと思ったけど固めてきたね。 そして去年O.A.だったけど間に合わんくて観れんかったKNOCK OUT MONKEY。なんでそっちの日なん!って歯ぎしりしました。小さいハコで観る機会結構あるけど、やっぱりフェスのステージで観たい。小さいハコで出会ったバンドだからこそ。でも今年のステージはFLOWERなのかー。O.A.でもOCEANで観る方が迫力あったやろうなあ。去年のサマソニで一番悔やまれるのがKOM観れんかったことやもんな。でもまたきっと出るやろうし観る機会があると信じてます。
ということで、タイムテーブルが出てないからどのぐらい回れるか微妙やけど今年は M.I.A.(仮) Jake Bugg(仮) Bullet For My Valentine Fall Out Boy Linkin Park METALLICA という流れになりそうです。一番観たいのはLinkinだな。中学生の頃からずっと好き。多分生で観たらものっすごいテンション上がるんやろうなあ。 とりあえずこの日は、 Joe Hahn、 Matt Tuck、 Lars Ulrich。 という大好きな3人を一度に見れる幸せな一日になりそうです。 「Linkin ParkでJoeが一番好き」って言ったら大抵「誰?」って聞かれる。わかってくれた人もいたけど、「小太りの日系人?」「あー、あのお相撲さんみたいな人」って言われた。お相撲さんって何なん。笑。誰が何と言おうとJoeはカッコいいです。確かに最近ちょっと太ってるけど。
サマソニといえば東京と大阪での格差が毎回話題ですね。 今年もONE OK ROCK来るやろ、って思ってたら東京だけやしね。むしろそこは大阪オンリーにすべきやろ!間違いなく客入るし。 そしてFIDLARね。好きすぎて最近ずっと聴いてるアメリカのガレージ系バンド。これはマジで運営を恨む。ほんまに観たかった……。個人的に推したいバンドなので、彼らについては改めて記事にします。 去年のNelly Furtadoもそうやけど、あたしがめっちゃ好きなアーティストを東京だけに入れてくるよね。笑。悔しすぎる。
今年はラインナップをやたら小出しにしてるような。一回のアナウンスで2組とか発表されても、あまりお得感がない。どっちも知らんアーティストやったら「ふーん」って感じやし。ジャンルと知名度バラバラの5組ぐらいを一気に発表する方が喜ぶ人多いと思うんやけどなあ。 MUSE前の一枠が「To Be Announced」、METALLICAの日のSONICの一枠が「Special Guest」になってるのが気になるところ。他にもう少し増えると思うし、海外の若手バンドが来たらいいなあ。あと、サマソニはミクスチャーアーティストがあんまり出ないからそっち系が観たい。MANAFESTとかMANAFESTとかMANAFESTとかThousand Foot Krutchとか……ね。笑。
